Coming into the season, the Washington Commanders set expectations high. Coach Dan Quinn declared that everything was a competition and that how players performed would very much affect their position on the depth chart.

For the past two years, the Commanders top two receivers were Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson. Through three weeks of training camp, however, Dotson has fallen down the depth chart and is now in a battle for positioning as the preseason continues.

The former No. 16 overall pick out of Penn State was asked about the competition and how he felt about it following practice on Thursday.

“Yeah, I am trying to show what I can do every single day,” Dotson said. “Just be better than I was yesterday. I’m trying to grow every single day that I come out here. Trying to find something to get better at every single day.”

It’s been a rough week for Dotson on the field, so its good to see that he wasn’t flustered or upset, but was honest about where he felt he was as a player and what he needed to do to get where he wants to be.

He played all of his snaps against the New York Jets out of the slot last week. Washington is in Miami this week to take on the Dolphins so it will be interesting to see how and where Dotson lines up this week.

The game kicks off at 6:00 p.m. EST Saturday from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
