Could Matthew Judon's Extension Be Good News For Jets?

Don't look now, but the New York Jets aren't the only team to trade for a top edge rusher in the game, but not reward him immediately with a new contract.

When the Atlanta Falcons traded a third-round pick for Matthew Judon of the New England Patriots, they did so without coming to terms on a new deal. The lone difference between the two situations is that it appears that the Falcons and Judon's camp are already negotiating a new deal as we speak.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing for the Jets. In fact, it might be the next best thing outside signing Haason Reddick to a new deal.

Judon is three years older than Reddick and is considered one of the best all-around defensive players in the league. Whatever deal Atlanta gives him, is something similar the likes of Reddick and the Jets could eventually come to terms with shortly as well.

In the NFL, staying within the market value is very important for different positions and teams.

The Jets are at the forefront of that conversation.

While Reddick may want to be paid like one of the highest edge rushers in the game, the Jets could patiently wait for a player like Judon to get his new deal as well to try and bring the asking price down.

In that regard, Judon's trade might be the best thing to happen to the Jets regarding Reddick's holdout status yet.
