USA Gymnastics Sends Strong Message to Jordan Chiles After Losing Bronze Medal

Jordan Chiles may have lost the bronze medal she earned at the Paris Olympics, but she still has the full support of her U.S. gymnastics team.

Chiles was stripped of the medal she had initially won in the floor competition when the Court of Arbitration for Sport overruled a scoring change that had moved her from fifth place to third.

The court ruled that an American coach made the appeal four seconds beyond the one-minute deadline, moving Chiles back to fifth place and giving the bronze medal to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.

Chiles earned some love from sister Jazmin Chiles, who took to social media to share praise for the way the gymnast handled the situation.

"My sister’s sportsmanship is unparalleled," Jazmin Chiles wrote on X . "She is the epitome of it. So proud."

The post got a strong response from USA Gymnastics, the national governing body of gymnastics in the United States.

"Jordan set the standard!" USA Gymnastics wrote in a post on X .

While Barbosu is now officially the bronze medalist for the floor competition at the Paris Olympics, Chiles still has the hardware she was initially awarded. USA Today's Christine Brennan reported on August 16 that Chiles still has possession of the medal she was given in Paris, even while Barbosu was given her own medal.
