Miami Marlins Injury Report - August 17th

The Miami Marlins (45-77) continue to toil away through the dog days of summer. Quickly approaching official playoff elimination, the club does still expect some of their injured players back before the season's end to help ease the pain if only a little.

10/15-Day Injured List

RHP Anthony Bender

Bender (4-2, 4.00 ERA; right shoulder impingement) was placed on the 15-day injured list on August 16th, retroactive to August 12th. He received an injection in his shoulder on August 15th and is expected to report to Jupiter, Florida on August 17th for more treatment. Manager Skip Schumaker said that he does not believe that Bender will need more than the minimum 15-day injured list stay.

OF Dane Myers

Myers (left ankle fracture) was out of his walking boot on August 16th and is slowly increasing weight-bearing activities on his left foot. The club still expects Myers back in September.

60-Day Injured List

LHP Josh Simpson

Simpson (left elbow ulnar neuritis) threw 1 1/3 innings for the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos on August 13th. He was scheduled to make another rehab appearance on August 16th but did not make it into the game. The club expects Simpson to make his debut by the end of August or the first week of September.

LHP Braxton Garrett

Garrett (2-2, 5.35 ERA; left forearm flexor strain) began incorporating breaking balls into his throwing program as of August 16th. He is expected to return in September.

LHP Ryan Weathers

Weathers (3-5, 3.55 ERA; left index finger strain) began throwing breaking balls and flat ground bullpen sessions this week. He is expected to return in September.

RHP Sandy Alcantara

Alcantara ( Tommy John surgery) is building in his bullpen progression. His next bullpen session is scheduled for August 17th. He will not return this season.
