It's a fine line. ... and Josh Allen is about to walk it.

Last week, in their first preseason game of the year, the Buffalo Bills played MVP candidate Allen and most of the starters for over a quarter and a half, the thinking being that as this roster is "remodeled,'' the QB and his guys need the work together.

Result? Awful, as they a 33-6 blowout to the Chicago Bears.

This week? Coach Sean McDermott wants them to try it again. So ...

Buffalo has announced that QB Allen and starters will play for over a quarter and a half when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday afternoon.

It is possible that the weather could cause a change in thinking; rain is scheduled in the forecast here.

But otherwise ... what about that "thinking''?

This is a risk vs. reward issue for all NFL teams, and maybe as much as anybody for the Bills, who are the perennial winners of the AFC East in large part because they ride the Superman cape of Allen.

Should disaster strike - and nobody wants to see this - and Allen gets hurt in an exhibition game?

Quite possibly ... The Bills go down. McDermott goes out. The whole thing falls apart and the Buffalo "window to the Super Bowl'' inches a bit more close to shutting.

As this team (and the Steelers, too, who are giving QB Russell Wilson his debut start) go around the league and work around the preseason decide who to start and sit ... it's about "risk vs. reward.''

What are the Bills getting out of it? We're about to find out. Allen and the Buffalo starters are going to play Saturday.
