    Commanders Trading For Trent Williams?

The Washington Commanders are looking to make a big leap forward in Year 1 of their rebuild under coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters. After selecting quarterback Jayden Daniels out of LSU with the No. 2 overall pick this year, the Commanders need an offensive line that can protect him.

Out in San Francisco, the former home of Peters where he served as the assistant general manager under John Lynch, the 49ers are locked in a contract battle with All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams.

Williams, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 draft by the Commanders, spent his first nine seasons in Washington and has made 11 consecutive Pro-Bowls. He has also been named first-team All-Pro the last three years.

Currently, the Commanders’ left tackle is the rookie out of TCU, Brandon Coleman who has shown a bit of promise during training camp. On the right side is veteran Andrew Wylie who has both struggled to stay healthy, and with his play on the field last season.

Peters, who is very familiar with Williams, should at least consider trading for Williams. His presence along the offensive line with Nick Allegretti, Tyler Biadasz and Sam Cosmi would instantly upgrade the unit in front of Daniels.

Washington could flip the rookie Coleman over to the right side as he showed that versatility in college.

Peters is clinging to his picks for next year’s draft, but if there is a chance he could get Williams back in Washington, it would be a huge win in his first year as general manager.
