'It's Russell Wilson!' Inside Ryan Clark's Steelers QB Prediction

The Pittsburgh Steelers went from having a defined quarterback room to a full-blown quarterback controversy in the matter of two weeks.

Does that mean one guy's moved up? Does it mean the other guy's moved down?

At the onset of training camp, Russell Wilson was the starter and in the “pole position” ahead of Justin Fields.

A calf injury sustained on the first day of camp during conditioning tests opened the door for Fields to change all of that. For two weeks of camp, Wilson was relegated to the sidelines while Fields got the first team reps moving him closer to being the starter.

Former Steeler Ryan Clark, however, doesn’t see it that way. In a recent appearance on ESPN’s First Take, Clark explains why he believes Wilson will be the starter.

"I was at that camp, I got an opportunity to watch those guys practice, talk to Minkah Fitzpatrick, the defensive players,” Clark said. “Everybody raved about both of these quarterbacks, but for different reasons, and that's why I believe it's going to be Russell Wilson who gets the most starts.

“The total leadership and command that he has on the offense right now is much higher than Justin Fields."

We don't have to tell Steelers fans that when Clark talks about this team, we listen.

Wilson will have his first opportunity to show his command of the offense - and to in essence prove Clark right - when he takes the field in his first preseason appearance on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills.

The game kicks off at 6:00 p.m. EST from Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
