Last season, the Big Ten reached the national championship for the first time since 2020. The Michigan Wolverines faced the Washington Huskies and won, 34-13. The Ohio State Buckeyes were the last team from the conference to reach that level of the College Football Playoff.
The conference made headlines this offseason after expanding to add more teams. The Big Ten added the Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans, and Washington.
While the Big Ten's focus this season has been on expansion, the Nebraska Cornhuskers shared some news on Saturday. Matt Rhule confirmed that key linebacker Javin Wright will be out indefinitely. However, Rhule believed that Wright would be back sometime this season.
There was no timetable for Wright's return.
Since coming to Nebraska, the Nebraska LB has dealt with blood clots and injuries. He missed the 2020 season with a preseason injury. Last season, Wright played in 12 games with one start at linebacker. Wright set a career-high with 51 total tackles, one and a half tackles for loss, a half sack, and two interceptions.
Wright was a former three-star prospect, per the On3 Industry Rankings . He started as a safety but switched to linebacker after a few seasons with the Cornhuskers.
Nebraska is looking for its first bowl game appearance since 2016. Rhule led the Cornhuskers to a 5-7 season in 2023.
The team added former five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola via the 2024 class. Raiola was the No. 3 QB from his class, per the On3 Industry Rankings .
Nebraska's best transfer portal additions included former Oregon running back Dante Dowdell, former Wake Forest Demon Deacons receiver Jahmal Banks, and former Texas Longhorns WR Isaiah Neyor.
The Cornhuskers face the UTEP Miners in their season opener on Aug. 31.
