The New York Mets Look to Clinch a Series Win Today

Luis Severino is on the mound for the Mets tonight.

The right-hander was New York’s best pitcher through June. Since then, though, he has not been the same pitcher. Since June, Severino has yet to pitch seven innings. Severino had a couple quality starts in July but he had two terrible starts in the month as well.

Severino has given up at least four runs in his last three starts. His ERA in his last seven starts is 6.19.

Fatigue seems to be a factor. Severino is already at 133 IP, a number he has not reached since 2018.

Severino’s issues seem to boil down to his arm not being able to survive the heavy load. A good start today would do a lot to reverse that narrative.

Here is how the Mets lineup behind Severino:

    1.) SS Francisco Lindor

    2.) 3B Mark Vientos

    3.) LF Brandon Nimmo

    4.) DH J.D. Martinez

    5.) 1B Pete Alonso

    6.) RF Jesse Winker

    7.) C Francisco Alvarez

    8.) 2B Jeff McNeil

    9.) CF Harrison Bader

    P Luis Severino

Mark Vientos is batting second today. Vientos hit two home runs on Thursday, the only other time he hit second this year.

Vientos provides a serious power threat from the two hole.

The Mets are facing Max Meyer for the first time tonight. The 25 year old is one of the many exciting young pitchers the Marlins have produced in recent years.

The rookie has struggled in his last four starts and the home run ball has plagued him. We will see if the Mets can get the long ball going against the young pitcher.

Here is how the Marlins lineup tonight:

    1.) SS Xavier Edwards

    2.) 3B Jake Burger

    3.) DH Jesus Sanchez

    4.) 1B Jonah Bride

    5.) CF Dax Hill

    6.) LF Kyle Stowers

    7.) 2B Otto Lopez

    8.) RF Vidal Bruján

    9.) C Nick Fortes

    SP Max Meyer

Luis Severino really needs to be careful with how he pitches to Jake Burger. Burger is the hottest hitter in the league. He has a 1.279 OPS and 10 home runs in his last 15 games.

The Miami lineup is full of holes. Against a lineup like this, you do not want to get beat by their one hot hitter.

    How to Watch

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:10 EST. Mets fans can watch the game on SNY, or MLB.TV. You can listen to the game on WCBS 880.
