At the early start of training camp, Takk McKinley looked like his career had turned a new corner for the New York Jets .

A couple of weeks after that hot start, New York saw the former first-round pick deal with injuries, with people questioning whether he would make the final 53-man roster in the end.

Since returning from his injury, though, the Jets have seen McKinley get back to that dominant start.

Now, the only thing holding back the 28-year-old is the fact that there is a deep core of edge rushers competing against him - with most being homegrown talents.

If McKinley is going to make the 53-man roster, he will need to continue to dominate in preseason action. He's been competing with undrafted free agents like Eric Watts, Leonard Taylor III, and Braiden McGregor. While he may have experience over these youngsters, the Jets value their development team - especially when it comes to undrafted talent.

For the former Falcon to prove to the Jets he belongs on an NFL roster, further dominance in the preseason games is needed. He had multiple quarterback hits and pressures in the team's win over Washington last week. He'll need to do more of that as well.

He'll get his next chance Saturday night in Carolina.
