Update: Browns’ Rule Out Two Players with Injuries vs. Vikings

The Cleveland Browns suffered a significant blow to their offensive depth during their latest preseason matchup, with both tackle James Hudson III and tight end Giovanni Ricci officially ruled out due to injuries.

Hudson, who had been filling in for Jedrick Wills Jr. at left tackle while Wills recovers from MCL surgery, limped off the field after just one play during the second quarter. The injury occurred when a player fell into Hudson’s leg, forcing him to leave the game for further evaluation. The Browns have since confirmed that Hudson has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

This setback for Hudson comes after a challenging preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, where he struggled with consistency and allowed multiple pressures and sacks.

Drafted in the fourth round in 2021, Hudson has yet to solidify his role as a reliable backup swing tackle, and this injury only adds to the Browns’ concerns about their offensive line depth as they prepare for a deep playoff run.

Adding to the team’s woes, tight end Giovanni Ricci has also been ruled out with a knee injury.

Ricci, who signed with the Browns in March 2024, has been a versatile player, contributing on special teams and as a fullback throughout his career. His absence further complicates the Browns’ offensive planning as they head toward the regular season.

The Browns’ coaching staff and front office will now need to reassess their depth chart and consider alternative options to ensure that the offensive line and tight end positions remain solid as they aim to compete at a high level this season.
