During the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' second preseason matchup, the team resolved perhaps its most notable offseason drama.

The Bucs are expected to come to terms with and released linebacker Randy Gregory, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times . The move ends an  short-lived term for the veteran player with the team.

Gregory, a former draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys and previously with the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers, signed with the team on a one-year, $3 million deal on April 4. However, he did not show at the Bucs' minicamp and had not shown up at training camp.

The experienced piece was positioned to bring experience to the group, but his lack of presence in team activities made his signing more of a distraction than anything else.

Regardless, the Bucs seem better positioned without such shenanigans. The team's linebackers and edge rushers have progressed through the offseason and now into practice with limited in-game action.

The Bucs only have limited evidence from offseason programs to reference in terms of their projected starters' development.

However, those events have proven very beneficial for the outlook of the Tampa Bay defense.

With Gregory now out of the picture, the Bucs can progress forward and zero in on growing the young potential scattered across the defensive front.
