It took all of one preseason game for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson to squash any belief that he could be a top-tier starter in the NFL again.

Wilson put on an unmemorable performance in Saturday’s 9-3 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills, completing 8 of his 10 passes but he averaged just 4.7 yards per completion and he was sacked three times.

Which prompted many to take to social media to rake the 35-year-old QB over the coals and clown on him for ruining the Steelers’ chances of landing star wideout Brandon Aiyuk.

His first two drives ended in a three-and-out and he completed just two passes for 14 yards, and Steelers fans likely experienced the same frustration Denver Broncos did for the last two years.

Wilson’s drives ended in four punts and a missed field goal, and the Pittsburgh offense generated just 34 yards of total offense on 21 plays (1.61 yards per play).

Considering the San Francisco 49ers had the No. 2-ranked offense (398.4 yards per game) and the No. 4-ranked passing offense (257.9 yards per game) in the NFL last season, it’s hard to imagine Aiyuk was inspired by what he saw on Saturday.
