Latest Ana Barbosu News Pours Salt in the Wound for Jordan Chiles

As if it wasn’t enough that USA gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of her bronze medal in the floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics and it was awarded to Romanian Ana Barbosu, there’s even more cruel news for Chiles.

According to Essentially Sports , Barbosu allegedly got quite a bit of loot as well, including what equates to $121,000 and a new car for her bronze-medal victory in Paris.

Barbosu’s haul is quite a significant upgrade over the $15,000 Chiles stood to make from the standard prize money awarded by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee through “Project Gold.”

Instead of banking $52,500 for her Olympic performances, Chiles instead will only get the $37,500 the USOPC awards to gold medalists (she won gold in the team event).

Following the CAS ruling that nullified the score inquiry that led to Chiles’ jumping from fifth to third place in the women’s floor exercise and effectively taking away her medal,

Despite the Romanian Olympic Committee recommending Chiles and Barbosu share the bronze medal along with Romanian Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, the International Olympic Committee chose to award the medal solely to Barbosu.

The 18-year-old received her bronze medal in a special medal ceremony Friday in her home country of Romania, and she addressed the controversy that led to her receiving the medal Chiles was forced to vacate.

“I want to believe that the day will come when all three of us will receive a bronze medal each,” she said.
