Demani Richardson makes another big play during preseason versus the New York Jets

Demani Richardson has made it clear that he’s doing everything in his power to secure a spot on the Carolina Panthers' roster. During the second week of preseason action against the New York Jets, Richardson showcased his knack for being in the right place at the right time, something that has become a hallmark of his play throughout training camp .

In the Panthers' 15-12 loss to the Jets, Richardson’s interception was the sole turnover of the game. The play not only gave the Panthers a crucial field goal opportunity, narrowing the gap to three points, but it also highlighted Richardson’s growing reputation as a ball hawk. This interception was his third of the week, following two during practice sessions.

Dave Canales, Panthers' coach, praised Richardson for his ability to capitalize on opportunities. “Every day is new lessons, learning different coverages, leverage and all that. And the cool part about Demani is, he had an opportunity tonight. He took advantage of it.," Canales said of the rookie safety. “He did a fantastic job of finishing that play, putting us in a good situation, getting us back on the board and really making it a three-point game at that point. So, that was awesome.”

Richardson himself remains humble, attributing his success to following the coaching he receives. “Just doing what I'm coached," he noted. "We got good coaches and I'm in the right spot.”

Fellow secondary member Jaycee Horn also acknowledged Richardson’s innate ability to be around the ball, "Some DBs, you just see that they got a tendency of getting to the ball. Some guys is always around the ball."

Richardson is giving the effort and getting the results that the coaches want. They know that turnovers are going to go a long way in how this season turns out for the Panthers. As Richardson continues to make strides in camp, his relentless pursuit of excellence is making a strong case for a permanent spot on the Panthers' roster.
