Although the Carolina Panthers decided to not play their starters during Week 2 of the preseason, there was still a couple of players who stood out. Most notably on the defensive side of the ball.

Rookie linebacker Trevin Wallace seized his moment, delivering an impressive first half against the Jets. Wallace’s speed, awareness, and tackling ability were on full display as he racked up four tackles. His quick adaptation to the speed of the NFL game is encouraging for the Panthers, who need as many dynamic playmakers as possible.

T.J. Smith continues to cause trouble when given the opportunity. He has been solid during training camp, as he looks to get into the defensive line rotation. Smith has looked strong in both preseason games and Ejiro Evero will give him every opportunity to support Derrick Brown and A’Shawn Robinson. During Week 2 Smith picked up his second sack of the preseason, as well as a tackle for loss, and a tipped ball that almost gave Carolina possession.

These two should both be huge chess pieces that DC Evero will move around the field this season. Smith is a big man, but has a little pep in his step to get after the quarterback. Wallace has a nose for the ball, and he will make plays all season. The more I see both of them, the more I expect big things going forward.
