The Pittsburgh Steelers are still searching for answers on offense as the preseason progresses, with the starting quarterback position remaining one of the biggest question marks.

As the team inches closer to their Week 1 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons , the competition between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson for the QB1 spot is heating up.

Both quarterbacks took the field in the Steelers' recent preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills. While neither was able to lead the team to a touchdown, Justin Fields managed to put together longer drives, showcasing his ability to extend plays and convert on third downs.

Despite this, the QB competition remains wide open, with neither Fields nor Wilson gaining a definitive edge.

Following the game, Fields spoke candidly about what he believes he needs to do to secure the starting job.

"I just wanna show cleanliness," Fields said. "I want to put drives together and end them with points. We had long drives, converted on some third downs, and got into the red zone a couple of times. But next week, we just gotta end those with touchdowns, with points."

Fields' performance against the Bills highlighted his mobility and playmaking ability, including an impressive escape from a near-certain sack that resulted in a completed pass. However, his inability to finish drives with touchdowns left him hungry for more.

As the Steelers prepare for their final preseason game against the Detroit Lions, Fields knows that this could be his last opportunity to prove he deserves to be the starter.

"If you don't end a drive in points, none of it matters," Fields emphasized. "So score touchdowns, I think that's the biggest thing."

With the QB battle still undecided, all eyes will be on Fields as he aims to solidify his position as the Steelers' starting quarterback for the 2024 season.
