The Kansas City Chiefs recently signed star defensive tackle Chris Jones to a new five-year, $158.75 million contract, and he is using his money in a very interesting way.

Vera Liddell, an Illinois cafeteria consultant, stole approximately $1.5 million in chicken wings from the school that she works for from July 2020 to February 2022. In order to keep her out of jail, Jones has offered to pay for the stolen food, but he will have to act fast.

She has already pleaded guilty, and she has received a sentence of nine years in prison. Per a report by People.com , that means that she and her attorneys have 30 days from her August 9 sentencing to vacate her guilty plea and request a restitution payment.

"The clock is ticking," attorney Gregory LaPapa said. "And Chris Jones has to be there with a checkbook."

The reason why Jones is willing to do this is because Liddell stole all of this food to fuel a gambling addiction that she has struggled with. Her attorney told People.com that this incident was not like her at all, and that she feels awful about what she did.

"She’s just a little sweetheart that’s got a gambling problem," attorney Patrick O’Byrne told People.com. "She feels beyond terrible about this. This is totally uncharacteristic of her. It was the disease taking over."

This story has led Jones to feel sympathy for Liddell, and he will try to use his new contract money to try and make things right.
