The Las Vegas Raiders are starting to make roster cuts ahead of the start of the 2024 season, and a notable move was made over the weekend. Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Anthony Brown was officially released after a disappointing preseason debut with the team.

Brown got very limited action, completing just one of his three pass attempts for 24 yards. He also rushed five times for 13 yards in the preseason week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

This is undoubtedly a frustrating development for Brown, who started his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens, but has since been looking for a roster spot with the Raiders after getting waived last year.

Brown was an intriguing prospect coming out of college after his two years spent playing for the Oregon Ducks. He saw some highs in Eugene, beating the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus in a thrilling upset. But he also experienced some brutal lows, as well, losing to an unranked Stanford Cardinal team on the road, and getting blown out by the Utah Utes in the Pac-12 Championship Game at the end of the year.

Going forward, we will see if he can land on another roster, or earn a practice squad spot somewhere in the league. Meanwhile, the Raiders will continue forward with their quarterback competition between Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell.
