Report Indicates Gardner Minshew 'Lost' Raiders QB Job Against Dallas Cowboys

    By Jake Brockhoff,

On Saturday, the Las Vegas Raiders took the field at Allegiant Stadium for the first time in 2024, for a preseason showcase against the Dallas Cowboys .

Things didn't go too well for Las Vegas, as they lost handily , by a score of 27-20. They struggled to build momentum on the offensive side of the ball throughout the game, and didn't provide their fans with much encouragement for the regular season.

Coming into the game, the biggest storyline for the Raiders surrounded their quarterback situation. Head coach Antonio Pierce stated earlier this week that he would attempt to make a decision on the starter, between Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew, after this week's game.

After the game ended, Bleacher Report gave some of their thoughts regarding the Raiders' performance.

    Their summary was pretty simple:

"Aidan O'Connell Didn't Win Raiders' QB Job, Gardner Minshew Lost It"

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew (15) looks to make a pass against the Dallas Cowboys in the second quarter at Allegiant Stadium.

In their analysis, they mention that aside from his deep ball connection to Tre Tucker in the early part of the game, Minshew struggled mightily. They mention times in which he missed open receivers and made bad reads.

Minshew's final stat line was 10/21 for 95 yards. He threw multiple balls that likely should have been intercepted, so he might be considered lucky to have even finished with that statline.

Now, B/R does mention that O'Connell didn't play too well either. He missed on a couple of throws, didn't take many chances, and threw a costly pick-six in the beginning of the fourth quarter.

However, due to Minshew's ugly performance, O'Connell may walk away with the starting job anyways.
