In his first five years with the Philadelphia Eagles , Josh Sweat was seen as a success story of the team's developmental staff. He improved his sack total including a double-digit sack season in 2022.

In 2023 - his sixth year with the team - Sweat failed to improve on his sack total, leaving him on the trade block as he entered the final season of his contract with the Birds.

Entering the 2024 season, Sweat has more pressure than almost any other defensive player for the Eagles. He's in the final year of his contract and coming off a down year as both a pass rusher and run defender.

Can Sweat get back to being the consistently underrated player the Eagles have had over the years?

Without Haason Reddick on the field, Sweat will be under pressure to be the most consistent player on the defense this season. If he's able to produce like he did at practice Sunday morning, though, it could be a positive sign for the Eagles' defense.

Sweat recorded three sacks - all against Fred Johnson Sunday. While this shows he can do what's expected of him against inferior talent, Sweat will need to do even more at the start of the 2024 season.

His future prospects and those of the Eagles depend on it.
