Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles caused quite a stir on Saturday when she showed up to the Chicago Bears preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals wearing a Green Bay Packers jacket.

Biles took a lot of heat on social media from various X users who accused her of

Being “ ridiculously unaware of her surroundings” and being naïve to “ the culture around division rivalries.”

But someone who has Biles’ back is former Bears quarterback-turned-NFL analyst for The Athletic Chase Daniel. The 14-year NFL vet chalked Biles’ mishap up to her simply supporting her husband, who was featured prominently on the jacket in question.

“She’s obviously supporting her husband Jonathan Owens and she’s one of the greatest Olympians so she gets a pass,” Daniel tweeted. “…But it’s still one of the oldest rivalries in all of football & she’s rocking [Packers] logos lol.”

Owens signed a two-year contract with the Bears on March 13 after spending the 2023 season with the Packers. He logging 84 tackles, three passes defensed, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, and he was Green Bay’s third-leading tackler.

The 29-year-old also played the second-most coverage snaps of any Packers defensive back, allowing 22 receptions on 33 targets for 221 yards and three touchdowns, per Pro Football Focus.

After the massive amount of attention Biles drew on Saturday, it’s hard to imagine her not showing up to her next Bears game wearing the proper attire.
