Why Won't Vic Fangio Start Nakobe Dean on Eagles Defense?

The more Nakobe Dean continues to get work in training camp, the more he looks the part as the future of the linebacker position for the Philadelphia Eagles .

So why won't new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio simply give Dean the reigns of the position yet?

As the former Georgia standout continues to make plays in practice and preseason action (he recorded an impressive pass breakup on Jalen Hurts Sunday morning), it's shocking he has not become the team's starting linebacker opposite Devin White to this point of training camp.

While Fangio has been impressed at times for newcomer Zack Baun, it's hard to say the former New Orleans Saint has outperformed Dean to this point - especially in-game action.

The longer Fangio goes without actually giving Dean the chance to start on opening night, the more it looks like the veteran coach is more willing to coach older veterans as opposed to younger players - a charge that has followed Fangio at times at stops in Denver, Chicago, and Miami.

There's still a long way to go before that thought could even begin to creep up, though.

So long as Dean continues to stand out in practices against a top offense like the one the Eagles have, the more likely it is he will eventually force Fangio's hand and get him on the field as the team's starting linebacker to open up the new season.
