Reds Claim Amed Rosario Off Waivers

The Cincinnati Reds have a new player joining their roster.

After winning the claim, the Reds have picked up shortstop Amed Rosario off waivers. The 28 year old was recently designated from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Rosario was with the Dodgers for only two weeks after he was traded to the team from the Tampa Bay Rays at the MLB Trade Deadline. However, with superstar Mookie Betts returning from the injured list, Los Angeles was in a roster crunch.

Rosario is not your typical waiver claim, as he is having a good season at the plate. In 275 at bats across 81 games, he has hit .305/.331/.415 with two homers and 28 RBIs. He also has ten stolen bases on 15 attempts. Rosario is only making $1.5 million this year, $1 million of which is being covered by the Tampa Bay Rays. A great depth piece for a Reds lineup who has struggled at times this season offensively.

Currently, in his eighth MLB season, Rosario will join his fifth team when he officially reports to Cincinnati. He has played a majority of his games in his career at shortstop, but with Elly De La Cruz clearly holding down that position, he is expected to play elsewhere on the field. He has 45 games worth of experience in the outfield, 59 games at second base, and 19 games at third.

The Cincinnati Reds are currently hanging on by a thread in the National League when it comes to postseason hopes. Heading into Sunday, Cincinnati is 11 games behind the division leading Milwaukee Brewers and five games outside the final spot in the NL Wildcard race.
