Ray Davis Shines in Bills' Preseason Win

Ray Davis won't be the Buffalo Bills' lead running back in 2024, but that doesn't mean he won't have an impact during the regular season.

In Buffalo's 9-3 preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday night, Davis carried the ball eight times for 54 yards rushing - close to seven yards a touch for the Bills.

His consistent display of burst and power made it a very solid game for the fourth-round rookie out of Kentucky.

“Very impressed,” McDermott said. “You could feel him. On TV, it was different. Offensive line was coming off the ball and Ray was making some big-time runs. They were physical. He was physical and almost looking for contact, squaring his pads up to the line of scrimmage. I respect that.”

Davis can provide a blend of power that the likes of James Cook simply can't in Buffalo's offense. He could also be the kind of efficient runner who the team relies on in the red zone, instead of putting Josh Allen in harm's way going forward on design runs.

As the Bills continue to look for ways to keep Allen upright, providing him with a strong rushing attack is very important.

If Davis continues to run like he did on Saturday, Buffalo could very well accomplish that goal.
