It’s no secret that Washington Commanders receiver Jahan Dotson has underperformed since be selected No. 16 overall back in 2021. With a new regime in town under coach Dan Quinn, Dotson has failed establish himself as the No. 2 receiver behind Terry McLaurin.

Frustrations grows on both sides as training camp and the preseason rolls on.

Enter the New York Jets. Gang Green has shared similar struggles with last year’s free agent acquisition Allen Lazard. Without four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers last season, Lazard struggled to a disappointing season in the league’s third worst passing offense.

We have a trade proposal that is a win-win for both sides.

The Commanders could send Dotson to New York where the expectations would be for him to just be the slot receiver as they already have Garrett Wilson and Mike Evans.

In return, the Commanders receive Lazard who is a big bodied possession receiver for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. To sweeten the pot a little bit, the Jets could also send kicker Austin Seibert over in the deal.

The Commanders have obvious kicking woes and a receiver that they aren’t sure fits into their plans.

The Jets have a receiver who doesn’t fit into their plans and a kicker they don’t particularly need with Greg Zuerlein back healthy.

A trade like this before the season would help both teams. The Commanders are in rebuild mode, and the Jets are in “all in” mode.

If Lazard doesn’t work out for the Commanders, this is the final year of guaranteed money on his contract and they could cut him after this season.

If Dotson doesn’t work out in New York, he’s still on his rookie deal and they can just choose not to pick up his fifth-year options and can let him test free agency following the 2025 season.

Meanwhile, the Commanders get a player who could potentially solve their kicking woes this season.

With one more preseason game on the schedule, the Commanders have nearly three full weeks before the regular season opener to work Lazard and Seibert in.
