Browns Plan to Start QB Deshaun Watson in Preseason Finale Despite O-Line Injuries

The Cleveland Browns are 0-2 this preseason with the final exhibition matchup coming on the road against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday.

There have been some ups and downs in losses to Green Bay and Minnesota as the Browns have seen both quarterbacks battling for the QB3 role - Dorian Thompon-Robinson and Tyler Huntley - play well and struggle.

Of course, the QB2 role belongs to Jameis Winston who has seen limited playing time while the other two battle it out for the third-string job.

But what we haven't seen is starter Deshaun Watson has yet to take the field, and that was planned all along as he recovers from shoulder surgery last November.

But according to that same plan, Watson will see action in the preseason finale against the Seahawks on Saturday. That, despite a banged-up offensive line that could provide little protection.

Starting left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. is still recovering from knee surgery that ended his 2023 campaign, and on Saturday, Cleveland lost James Hudson III to an ankle injury and Hakeem Adenji with a knee. Neither are expected to take the field on Saturday.

Jack Conklin, who is the team's starting right tackle, is still working his way back from a knee injury from last season, and Germain Ifedi injured his finger against the Vikings.

But the plan remains to get Watson his first preseason action on Saturday .

“We’ll see,” coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters after Saturday’s game. “I mean, the plan is for Deshaun to play. Obviously, I take in all the information week-to-week, day-to-day, but that is the plan.”
