Texas lost a key member of its 2025 recruiting class on Sunday when four-star cornerback Kade Phillips flipped his commitment to the LSU Tigers.

Phillips initially committed to the Longhorns on July 6. The Hightower (Missouri City, TX) product is ranked the 21 cornerback in the nation for the 2025 recruiting class and the No. 27 overall prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports composite.

Texas, LSU, and Baylor hosted Phillips for an official visit while Texas A&M received an unofficial visit back in February.

Jordan Scruggs of Horns247 reported that nearly every program that offered Phillips were targeting him as a cornerback at the collegiate level. However, Texas pursued Phillips as a safety.

The Longhorns now only have one defensive back committed for the 2025 cycle in three-star cornerback Caleb Chester. Texas' class currently ranks No. 13 in the country with several big-time targets set to commit over the next two weeks.
