Former Texas star and longtime backup NFL quarterback Colt McCoy will once again be involved in college football starting this fall now that his playing career has reached an end.

NFL insider Peter Schrager tweeted out Monday morning that McCoy has officially retired from the league.

"After 14 years, Colt McCoy tells me he is retiring from the NFL," wrote Schrager. "One door closes, another opens. Congrats to Colt on an awesome NFL career!"

McCoy is now set to join the media side of football following a 14-year professional career that took him from the nation's Capitol through the San Francisco Bay, into the Big Apple, and ended way out in the Arizona desert. On Monday, news came out that McCoy is a part of the team at NBC.

Here was NBC Sports' release announcing the hire:

"Colt McCoy, a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist at the University of Texas and 14-year NFL quarterback, will join NBC Sports as an analyst for Big Ten Football coverage, it was announced today," NBC wrote on Monday.

The website added that he'll be involved in live game broadcasts and on studio shows.

"McCoy will serve as a game analyst and will also appear on the Big Ten College Countdown studio show," said NBC. "He will make his debut alongside Paul Burmeister (play-by-play) and Kathryn Tappen (sideline reporter) in primetime."

His first game will be a doozy, too, as NBC spotlights the Nebraska vs. Colorado game in Week 2.
