ESPN SP+ Computer Model Predicts Winner Of Florida State-Georgia Tech Week 0 Matchup

No. 10 Florida State will be taking on ACC foe Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland for their Week 0 meeting to kick off the college football season.

On Monday, ESPN's Bill Connelly released the model's score projections for each of the Week 0 games utilizing his SP+ formula , which was created in 2008. This particular formula is based on tempo and opponent-adjusted measures of a college football team's efficiency.

The Seminoles are 11.5-point favorites in this game, and Connelly's SP+ foresees them covering and winning in blowout fashion. According to a social media post from Connelly, the SP+ has determined that Florida State will win by a score of 39-20.

The model gives the Seminoles an 89% chance to beat the Yellow Jackets.

The Seminoles are fresh off of a season that saw them go 12-0 in the regular season and win the ACC title to advance to 13-0, but still was left out of the College Football Playoff. The committee essentially ruled that without starting quarterback Jordan Travis who went down with a gruesome leg injury with a couple of weeks left, they weren't the same team.

They then went on to be trounced in the Orange Bowl by fellow playoff snub Georgia, who beat them 63-3.

While the Seminoles lost 10 players to the NFL, they did bring in the No. 7 transfer portal class, which should help them sustain their success.

The Yellow Jackets on the other hand had their first winning season since 2018 this past season, and are looking to emerge as a dark horse in the ACC.

Their Week 0 game will be televised by ESPN on August 24 at noon ET.
