Gymnast Jordan Chiles' journey at the 2024 Paris Olympics was a rollercoaster of joy and heartbreak, turbulent from the jump. During the qualifying round, Chiles placed fourth overall. However, she failed to clinch a spot in the individual all-around competition due to the two-person per country rule.

While Simone Biles' first-place score of 59.566 was untouchable, Sunisa "Suni" Lee, who placed third overall, edged Chiles out by .067 points. Chiles shook it off and played a crucial role in helping Team USA win the gold medal, as she was only gymnast aside from Biles to compete on all four apparatuses. And then things took a devastating turn.

Chiles won her first individual bronze medal on the floor exercise only to have it stripped away nearly a week later following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration (CAS). In a controversial decision, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) reversed Chiles' score back to when her difficulty level was misjudged, and International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu the bronze.

While Chiles has been quiet on social media after sharing an official statement on the botched results, she posted a cryptic message on her Instagram Stories on August 19.

She pulled a quote from another account that read, "Maturing is realizing you prefer a quiet life. You don't chase after friendships or relationships, you're happy with the few friends your have, no drama, just working on being the best version of yourself, not comparing your life to others, and learning to enjoy your own company instead of relying on others to be happy."

While it's not immediately clear what prompted her to re-post this emotional statement, the 23-year-old appears to still be processing the events of the past several weeks -- and understandably so.

Chiles' teammates and coaches are also still reeling from the reversal, along with Team USA fans.

While Barbosu received her bronze medal during a ceremony in Romania, on August 16, Chiles has not relinquished hers.

USA Today's Christine Brennan reported on August 15, "There are no plans for Chiles to give the medal back as U.S. officials say they plan to appeal what the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee said were 'significant procedural errors' by CAS. That appeal would presumably go to the Swiss Federal Tribunal."
