After Missing Out On Commanders, Bezos Eyes NBA's Celtics

When the other 31 owners of the NFL forced Daniel Snyder to sell the Washington Commanders , the avalanche of bidders was strong. One such bidder was the founder of Amazon, "Washington guy'' Jeff Bezos.

Bezos reportedly made offers for the team before ultimately being outbid by new owner Josh Harris.

But ... Not one to be deterred from owning a professional sports franchise, reports are the Bezos is now interested in buying the NBA champion Boston Celtics.

The NBA foundational franchise went up for sale following their most recent championship with a current asking price north of $6 billion, which is what the Commanders sold for.

Boston-tied media guy Bill Simmons pondered why Bezos would even want to buy the team. (Psst: It's not that hard to figure out.)

Said Simmons : “I think he’s gonna be one of the suitors. Which got me thinking, Jeff Bezos when he’s looking at the Celtics, what is he seeing?

“What does he want? And I think the only way it makes sense is that it’s one of the crown jewel franchises. That’s why you get it. To him, it would be no different than if you bought this famous gigantic $300 million yacht, but I think it’s real that he’s potentially in the mix for this.”

We're not sure what Simmons is missing here. Is a sports franchise a “look what I bought” toy for a billionaire? Obviously. As with the Commanders, is it also an investment? Obviously.

Oh, and is it fun to own an NFL or an NBA team? No disrespect to Bill Simmons ... but if Simmons could do what Bezos has tried to do by owning a big-time sports franchise ... wouldn't he? Wouldn't you?
