Under head coach Dabo Swinney, the Clemson Tigers have been to the national championship four times and won twice. The Tigers beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2016 and again in 2018 to win the title.

Since then, Clemson has not lived up to that standard. In 2019, Clemson reached the national championship but lost to the LSU Tigers. Clemson played the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff semifinal the following year and lost 49-28. The Tigers won 10 games in 2021, 11 in 2022, and nine last season.

The odds for the first head coach fired this season were released recently, per BetOnline. Swinney had 25-1 odds to become the first head coach fired by his program in 2024.

Swinney has made his disapproval of the transfer portal and NIL known. Clemson was one of the only teams in college football not to add anyone from the portal this offseason. The Tigers lost players like cornerback Toriano Pride (Missouri Tigers), receiver Beaux Collins (Notre Dame Fighting Irish), and safety Andrew Mukuba (Texas Longhorns) to the portal this offseason.

Clemson returns players like quarterback Cade Klubnik, linebacker Barrett Carter, running back Phil Mafah, and tight end Jake Briningstool.

The early part of Clemson's schedule will be vital in predicting how the team will do in 2024. Clemson has ranked matchups with the Georgia Bulldogs (Aug. 31), NC State Wolfpack (Sept. 21), and Florida State Seminoles (Oct. 5).

Clemson faces Georgia at Noon ET on ABC.
