Chargers Cut Former Big 12 Star Quarterback On Monday

The Los Angeles Chargers are releasing former TCU Horned Frogs quarterback and Heisman finalist Max Duggan.

Duggan was previously drafted by the Chargers with the 239th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft.

The 6-foot-1 quarterback never saw the field in Los Angeles, aside from a recent preseason showing against the Los Angeles Rams in 2024. Duggan produced 41 yards on four completions with a 57.1 completion percentage against the Rams.

Duggan spent time on the Chargers' active roster and practice squad during the 2023 season. Despite Los Angeles' limited quarterback depth, with Easton Stick and Luis Perez as their reserve backups behind Justin Herbert, Duggan couldn't carve out a role with the team.

During his time at TCU, Duggan became a superstar in his last season.

He played for the Horned Frogs from 2019-22. Duggan finished his college career with 73 touchdowns, 9,618 passing yards, and 739 completions.

In his 2022 Heisman campaign, Duggan recorded 32 touchdowns on 3,698 passing yards and 267 completions. He was a Heisman finalist with USC quarterback Caleb Williams, Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, and Goegria quarterback Stetson Bennett.

As NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported, Duggan will now go on waivers.

This means Duggan's contract is not terminated, but it's made available for other teams to acquire. Since Duggan has less than four years of service in the NFL, he will be on the waiver wire before he's listed as an unrestricted free agent.
