Eagles' James Bradberry Position Change Going 'Better Than Expected'

Last season, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was just not very good. There isn’t a lot of ways to put it, but his contributions on the field took a nose dive as the Eagles secondary was the second-worst in the league behind the Washington Commanders.

Bradberry looked slow and lethargic most of the season as he was continually beat week after week.

Many pundits and prognosticators had Bradberry on the scrap pile to be cut or traded before the season began, but new reports are that the ninth-year veteran is making a smooth transition to safety that could save his career.

Recently on Philadelphia’s 94WIP, radio host Eliot Shorr-Parks gave an update from straight from the Eagles defensive coordinator himself.

"Vic Fangio says James Bradberry is doing better at safety than he expected," Shorr-Parks said. "Says his football IQ is helping him make the transition from cornerback."

Just two seasons ago, Bradberry was named second-team All-Pro. He is looking to contribute more at the safety position this season as the Eagles move forward with rookie corners Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean playing alongside veteran Darius Slay.

Bradberry and Avonte Maddox are both making the transition on the same team at the same time. Bradberry has played at a very high level at corner in the past and could be called on to play in case of emergency or specific dime sets.

The Eagles wrap up their preseason schedule this week at home against the Minnesota Vikings.
