Haason Reddick, Jets Holdout Takes New Twist

"The Atlanta Falcons don't know me as a football player. They know my history. So I can't demand something I haven't worked for."

Are these words from All-Pro edge rusher Matthew Judon regarding his recent trade to the Atlanta Falcons...or the New York Jets to Haason Reddick?

As New York's top edge rusher continues to hold out from the team that traded for him in April, the belief is that the former Eagle will refuse to attend so much as a meeting in Florham Park until the Jets get closer to his demands. Reddick believes being one of just two defenders in the NFL to record over 10 sacks should be enough for any team to give him the kind of money he's looking for.

The Jets, on the other hand, believe that what Reddick did in Philadelphia, Carolina, or Arizona, no longer matters, At 29 years old, the Temple product must prove himself to his new team before any long-term commitment is made.

Therein lies the stand-off, and why Judon's comments aren't exactly helpful for Reddick.

Judon may be three years older and coming off a season-ending injury last year, but he's a more complete edge defender than Reddick. His work with New England had him as a defensive player of the year candidate and among the most complete players at his position.

    Something Reddick has never been.

So while Reddick and the Jets continue to stay at arm's length toward each other, Judon's comments may be the kind of driving force New York needs to get their own aging pass rusher back to the negotiating table.
