Is Browns Starting Deshaun Watson Right Call?

    By Wil Riggs,

Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, at this moment, plans to start quarterback Deshaun Watson in the final preseason game of the year against the Seattle Seahawks.

Watson hasn’t played a single snap in the preseason; is starting him this week the right decision?

Last season, Watson was lost to season-ending shoulder surgery following Week 6. He has gone through all of the rehab required and was released and cleared for contact.

“We’ll see. I mean, the plan is for Deshaun to play,” Stefanski told the media. “Obviously, I take in all the information week-to-week, day-to-day, but that is the plan.”

We understand that Watson hasn’t taken a live snap or thrown the ball since Week 6 of last season. He certainly needs the reps, but we just aren’t sure that the final preseason game is the ideal place for it.

The Browns are already short on tackles, and the last thing they needs is for a Seahawks defender trying to make the 53-man roster come off the edge and end Watson’s year before it begins.

The time to get him those reps? It wasn't last weekend, either, as the Browns chose to showcase Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Tyler Huntley instead.

Starting Watson this week is playing with fire. We just hope they don’t get burned.
