As the Pittsburgh Steelers face mounting criticism following two preseason losses to the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills , former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has stepped in to provide a different perspective.

Despite the team’s offensive struggles, which have resulted in only 15 points over two games and no touchdowns from quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields , Belichick believes the root of the problem lies elsewhere.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show , Belichick was quick to point out that the Steelers’ challenges extend beyond their quarterback play.

“I think they have bigger problems than the quarterback position,”. said Belichick

He specifically highlighted the offensive line’s inconsistency, noting the impact of losing Troy Fautanu and the adjustments required with Broderick Jones stepping in at right tackle and a rookie center taking snaps.

The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach also defended Steelers’ offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who has been under scrutiny as the team’s offensive output has sputtered.

“I think Arthur is a good fit, he’s a really good coach. I think he’ll get a lot out of this team,” Belichick said .

He added that the key to the Steelers' success will be the offensive line's ability to create consistent running lanes, which in turn would allow Wilson to make plays downfield.

“That’s their formula to win,” Belichick concluded .

As the Steelers prepare to close out their preseason against the Detroit Lions , Belichick's endorsement of Smith offers a vote of confidence, suggesting that with time and improvement in the trenches, Pittsburgh’s offense has the potential to turn things around.
