Texas lands at No. 4 in another preseason ranking.

The Athletic released its preseason ranking of all 134 FBS College football team this week. The Longhorns trail only Georgia (No. 1), Ohio State (No. 2), and Oregon (No. 3). Some national media networks flip-flop Texas and Oregon, but the preseason consensus appears to be No. 4 for the Longhorns.

    And for good reason.

Texas returns a Heisman contender at quarterback in Quinn Ewers , an experienced offensive line , one of the top offensive coaches in the game, and several talented players on the defensive side of the ball. A favorable first-year SEC schedule is the cherry on top.

In 2023, the Longhorns took home the Big 12 Championship and reached its first-ever College Football Playoff. Although the team lost several key starters to the NFL this offseason, Steve Sarkisian's staff was able to add immediate impact players at those positions via the transfer portal. Newcomers Isaiah Bond, Matthew Golden, Silas Bolden, and Trey Moore will be impact players for the Longhorns this season.

Alabama, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State, and Missouri round out the Top 10 of The Athletic's ranking.
