Chicago Sky Use Angel Reese Effect To Announce Historic Partnership

Chicago Sky star rookie Angel Reese has become a popular name across the WNBA. She is also a fan favorite for the Sky and has earned a number of nicknames.

A few of those nicknames include Barbie , with Chi-Town Barbie, All-Star Barbie, and Bayou Barbie all being tied to Reese, with the latter coming from her days at LSU.

On Wednesday, the Sky announced a historic partnership with Mattel to host a Barbie Night Game, per the team's official release. This is the first ever Barbie theme night.

"As part of Mattel, Inc.’s (NASDAQ: MAT) partnership with Athlife, Inc. to create branded game day activations at sports arenas nationwide, the Chicago Sky will celebrate women athletes by introducing the WNBA’s first-ever Barbie theme game on Friday, August 30, at 6:30 p.m. CT against the Indiana Fever at Wintrust Arena"

Ironically enough, the Barbie Night Game will be against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on August 30.

It is the 65th anniversary of Barbie, and the game will include promotions, giveaways, and other activities for the fans.

Tania Haladner, the Chief Marketing Officer for the Sky, released a statement after the announcement was made.

“The Chicago Sky are thrilled to be the first WNBA team to partner with Barbie, the world’s most iconic and diverse doll brand that reminds girls they can be anything,” Haladner said. “Barbie aligns perfectly with the Sky’s mission to empower girls and women to explore limitless possibilities, and we can’t wait to bring inspiring content to fans.”

The Barbie Night Game will also feature guest DJ Nosike making her way to Wintrust Arena.

On the same day Angel Reese announced her partnership with Reese's Pieces , the Sky unveiled an exciting Barbie Night Game at the end of August.
