Greg McElroy Announces Big 12 Championship Prediction For This Season

Last season, the Texas Longhorns won the Big 12 title after beating the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Now, Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners have left the conference, with the Colorado Buffaloes, Utah Utes, Arizona State Sun Devils, and Arizona Wildcats joining.

Greg McElroy shared his prediction for which two teams will play in the Big 12 Championship this season on a recent episode of " Always College Football ." The Big 12 Championship will be in Arlington, Texas, at AT&T Stadium on Dec. 7.

McElroy picked Oklahoma State and Utah to play in the Big 12 title game. If the Cowboys reach the title game again in 2024, it will be their third appearance since 2021. He did predict that the Utes would win, however.

"...I've got Kansas and Kansas State at 6-3 in the league," McElroy said. "I have Oklahoma State and Utah at 7-2 in the league. That means Utah and Oklahoma State will be playing for the Big 12 title in our eyes, and the winner is the Utah Utes."

Utah returns top talent like quarterback Cam Rising, tight end Brent Kuithe, and corner Zemaiah Vaughn. The Utes added a huge player via the portal this offseason, former Arizona and USC Trojans receiver Dorian Singer. Singer led the Wildcats with 1,105 receiving yards in 2022.

Kyle Whittingham is no stranger to playing for conference championships. The Utes beat the Oregon Ducks for the Pac-12 title in 2021, then beat USC in the conference championship the following year.

Utah opens the year with the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Aug. 29. Oklahoma State faces the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in its season opener on Aug. 31. Oklahoma State and Utah play each other on Sept. 21.
