Justin Herbert has earned a spot on Peyton Manning's list of the top five quarterbacks currently in the NFL. Manning, a two-time Super Bowl champion and five-time MVP, named Herbert alongside Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen during a recent event.

"This Justin Herbert is as talented as anybody," Manning said of Herbert at Fanatics Fest.

Herbert, entering his fifth season with the Los Angeles Chargers after being selected sixth overall in the 2020 draft, quickly made a name for himself. He set the NFL rookie record for passing touchdowns with 31 and threw for over 4,000 yards in his debut season. He is one of only five rookie quarterbacks in NFL history to achieve this milestone.

In his second season, Herbert continued to impress, surpassing 5,000 passing yards and throwing 38 touchdowns, joining an elite group of quarterbacks. He broke records previously held by Matthew Stafford and Dan Marino for passing yards and touchdowns in the first two seasons, respectively.

While Herbert is often mentioned in discussions about the league's elite quarterbacks, he has yet to match the accomplishments of the players on Manning's list. Mahomes stands out with three Super Bowl titles, while Burrow has already reached a Super Bowl. Allen has led the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs for five consecutive years, and Jackson is a two-time MVP. Herbert has made one Pro Bowl and reached the wildcard round of the playoffs but is looking for more success under new head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Currently, Herbert is dealing with a plantar fascia injury that has sidelined him during the preseason. However, he returned to practice recently and is expected to be ready for the regular season opener on September 8.
