Giants 'Betraying The Entire Organization' By Starting Daniel Jones, Analyst Says

The New York Giants are prepared to enter this season as Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback. Following a year in which Jones missed the majority of the season with a torn ACL, the Giants are hoping that he can remain healthy and lead them back to the playoffs this season.

On Tuesday, former Giants linebacker and Fox Sports analyst Emmanuel Acho decided to blast his former club for their allegiance to Jones on an episode of “ Speak .”

“If the Giants do not bench Daniel Jones, they are admitting they are forfeiting the season,” Acho said. “When you walk into an NFL locker room and Daniel Jones is your starting quarterback, you’re admitting — not just to the 53 players plus the 10 practice squad players — you’re admitting to your fans that ‘we are submitting’ during the course of the season. We are already saying, ‘Mercy.'”

That’s pretty harsh criticism for the entire franchise, but Jones has only had one good season as a starter back in 2022 when he led the Giants to the playoffs with a 9-7-1 record. Acho continued his rant declaring that the Giants are “betraying” everyone person in the organization.

“You are betraying the entire organization,” Acho proclaimed.

The Giants have one final preseason game this week against the New York Jets before the season opens. New York is only committed to Jones for this season and can effectively get out of his contract after the season.

They could potentially change things up if things get ugly late in the year, but New York's reasons for starting Jones are more than financial. Backups Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito are less proven than Jones -- but that doesn't lend itself to upside. The Giants know they are better off attempting to rekindle the magic of 2022 than handing the keys to a career backup or an undrafted free agent quarterback with lesser tools than Jones.

New York open the season at home against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Sept. 8.
