The college football season officially begins in the coming days with the grand opening set for Labor Day weekend. That means the return of ESPN's College GameDay and the spotlight turning to personalities like Kirk Herbstreit and Pat McAfee.

One person who will not be enjoying those festivities is former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ryan Leaf.

Leaf, a former college football color commentator at ESPN, has expressed animosity toward his former network colleagues since last season. Those tensions came as a result of lighthearted slight at Washington State, Leaf's alma mater.

During a recent appearance on Outkick's "Hot Mic with Jonathan Hutton and Chad Withrow," Leaf attacked both Herbstreit and McAfee.

“Herbstreit and [Pat] McAfee are the most, you know, overly sensitive people I’ve ever met for guys who live in this high platform," Leaf said. "They get criticized all the time, but boy, God, are they overly sensitive. Narcissists."

Leaf excelled at Washington State before going to the pros, faltering through an extremely short-lived tenure in the NFL. With the Cowboys, Leaf started three of the four games he played in, totaling an 0-3 record as the team's lead man under center.

The frustrations stemmed from a comment on College GameDay about Washington State and remaining Pac 12 partner Oregon State not being wanted elsewhere amid rampant conference realignment. His last appearance on ESPN came a day before his first criticisms of the acclaimed college football program.

Since that debacle nearly a year ago, it seems the ESPN folks have not given those comments much thought, but Leaf has let those feelings fester.
