Greg McElroy Picks This Season's National Championship Winner

The Big Ten has won the College Football Playoff the fewest out of the Power 4 conferences. Last season, the Michigan Wolverines gave the conference its second playoff win after beating the Washington Huskies. The Ohio State Buckeyes won the playoff in 2014 over the Oregon Ducks.

Greg McElroy released his full 2024 12-team playoff bracket on a recent episode of " Always College Football ." He also picked the team he thought would win the national title this season. McElroy ended up going with Ohio State.

The Buckeyes have been in the playoff several times but only have one national championship win in 2014. Ohio State also made the playoff in 2016, 2020, and 2022.

"Let's just see how the season plays out," McElroy said. "It'll be fascinating. It's going to be a great year and a lot of fun to evaluate. So, to have a little bit more fun, I'll tell you my national champion pick. I'm taking the Ohio State Buckeyes to win the national championship here in 2024."

The offensive has no shortage of weapons in Columbus. That unit includes quarterback Will Howard, former Ole Miss Rebels running back Quinshon Judkins, RB TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and WR Emeka Egbuka.

The offensive line returns starters Donovan Jackson, Josh Fryar, Josh Simmons and Carson Hinzman.

Ohio State also added some key players to the defense. Former Alabama Crimson Tide safety Caleb Downs was the top transfer commit on defense for Ohio State.

The Buckeyes also gained recruits like former four-star edge rusher Eddrick Houston , former four-star corner Aaron Scott Jr. , former four-star CB Bryce West , former four-star linebacker Garrett Stover and former four-star defensive lineman Dominic Kirks via the 2024 class.

Ohio State opens the 2024 season against the Akron Zips on Aug. 31. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
