Washington State Legend Wants Ol’ Crimson Flag Removed From ESPN 'College GameDay'

Following the tectonic conference realignment shifts throughout college sports, one Washington State alum believes ESPN needs to do away with one of its oldest "College GameDay" traditions.

"College GameDay" has featured a unique touch for Cougars fans over the years, as they can see the Ol' Crimson flag dancing in the wind every Saturday morning in the fall. In fact, that grand piece of cloth capped off the 2023 season with its 300th "College GameDay" appearance.

It's a "College GameDay" staple. However, former Washington State quarterback Ryan Leaf no longer wants to see Ol Crimson fly high at GameDay. Instead, he'd like ESPN to cease showcasing it and allow the flag only to be displayed wherever Washington State is playing that week.

"Since ESPN and College GameDay were so instrumental in tearing down the Pac-12, may I suggest no longer flying our symbol of football loyalty at the chosen site," Leaf said, adding, "but rather at whatever site our Washington State team may be playing that given week?!?"

Of course, Washington State is still technically a member of the Pac-12 along with Oregon State, but only after that duo watched the other 10 leave for the Big Ten (four teams), Big 12 (four) and ACC (two).

Leaf believes ESPN and "College GameDay" had a hand in that development, and thus, would no longer like to see Washington State iconography shown on their set and show outside of Pullman or whoever Washington State is playing.
