Dan Mullen's name is a popular one among college football fans. The former Florida and Mississippi State head coach is now working for ESPN as an analyst.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Mullen revealed his picks for the new-look SEC that added both Texas and Oklahoma.

Mullen picked both Mississippi State and Florida to finish in the bottom half of the conference.

However, Mullen's SEC title game pick included a big upset. Mullen picked Texas to defeat Georgia in the SEC title game, with Texas, Georgia, Missouri, Ole Miss, LSU, and Alabama as the top six teams in the conference.

Mullen posted his entire list on X with a caption reading, "Getting in the title game could come down to the tiebreaker. There are 6 teams that have a chance."

On one hand, Texas has all of the makings of a College Football Playoff contender. Last year, they made the Playoff before losing to the Washington Huskies, although they lost a number of key players from that team.

On the other hand, it is a bit of a surprise to go with the Longhorns over Georgia in the title game. Texas' schedule includes games at Michigan, at Oklahoma, home against Georgia, at Arkansas, and at Texas A&M. Texas also suffered a pair of season-ending injury blows to the running back room, but added Velton Gardner in a late transfer portal pickup.

Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports picked Georgia as the top SEC team with Texas right behind, and six of eight CBS experts picked Georgia to finish on top of the SEC while the others picked Texas.

Georgia was also named the Associated Press preseason No. 1 team in the polls by a comfortable margin while Texas was No. 4. The Bulldogs have Carson Beck at quarterback as well as a top defense in the country once again.

With the Longhorns moving to the SEC, just getting to the SEC title game will be difficult. If they do that, call it a success for Steve Sarkisian. If they defeat Georgia, as Mullen predicts, that would be a monumental feat for the first season in the SEC.
