Reporter Reveals JJ Redick is 'Already' Changing the Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a new season with a mix of cautious optimism and significant pressure, especially as LeBron James enters his 22nd campaign and first alongside his son, Bronny James.

There's also the Lakers' biggest offseason acquisition: New coach JJ Redick. Many are curious how the former NBA shooter would fare since he has zero coaching experience.

The 40-year-old Redick stated that his 17-year NBA career and his previous job as an ESPN analyst gave him enough perspective and knowledge for his new role.

According to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times , the changes Redick has implemented are "already evident" in practice.

"Workouts have featured more live basketball—one on one and three on three—than past summers when the focus was more on individual, noncompetitive work," Woike reported.

He noted that workouts are expected to ramp up in the coming days when LeBron James and Anthony Davis return to the squad after their gold medal-winning stint for Team USA in the Paris Olympics.

"This could be one step of the player development changes that Redick vowed to make when he took the job this summer," Woike added.

The Lakers were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs last season.

Aside from Bronny, the Lakers have other young players on the roster, including 17th overall pick Dalton Knecht, the recently re-signed Max Christie and second-year guard Jalen Hood-Schifino.

Redick and the Purple and Gold will be under the spotlight anew as they will be featured in 39 nationally televised games.

They will open their season against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 22.
