Last season, Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb was lost for the season during a Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. A gruesome knee injury led to Chubb being carted off the field and then second-year running back Jerome Ford being forced into action.

As a rookie in 2022, Ford had just 12 yards on 8 carries. Last season, he started the final 15 games of the year and tallied 813 yards on 204 carries for a 4.0 yards per carry average. He also posted four scores on the ground.

Ford also hauled in 44 receptions for 319 yards and five touchdowns giving him over 1,100 all-purpose yards in his first year as a feature back.

On Wednesday, coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about how he felt Ford did last year and what they can build on this year.

“I thought he had some really good moments for us,” Stefanski said. “A young player that I think will continue to get better. We threw him out there on third downs last season, as a third-down running back, and he wasn’t perfect, but he didn’t miss a beat.

“Excited for all the things that come with being a veteran player and getting more turns at it.”

With Chubb still sidelined recovering from multiple knee surgeries, Ford is expected to be the feature back headed into the season.

The Browns kick off their regular season with a home game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 8 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
