The San Francisco 49ers are gearing up for a roster shakeup as the start of the season approaches. With key decisions looming, the focus has shifted beyond star receiver Brandon Aiyuk to other potential moves within the team.

As the 49ers prepare for the upcoming season, trades or cuts may be on the horizon, particularly in the cornerback position. The team currently has a crowded cornerback room, which could lead to some tough choices.

CBS Sports' Josh Edwards suggested that San Francisco could end up trading a cornerback away or cutting one over the next few weeks.

"Charvarius Ward is the crown jewel in San Francisco's secondary but a lack of depth and experience led to Ambry Thomas, Deommodore Lenoir, and Samuel Womack III picking up varying levels of playing time early in their careers," Edwards said.

"The team drafted Renardo Green out of Florida State in the second round while Isaac Yiadom, Rock Ya-Sin, and Darrell Luter Jr. compete opposite Ward."

Charvarius Ward stands out as the best player in the secondary, but the depth after him is questionable at best. Their young players might be talented but their room has gotten very crowded. It would not be surprising to see the 49ers get active and move some secondary pieces.

With limited roster spots available, the 49ers may look to streamline their cornerback group in the coming weeks. While Aiyuk's future remains a hot topic, the team's overall roster decisions will be crucial as they finalize their lineup for the season. Keep an eye on the cornerback situation as the 49ers navigate these changes.
